How structural drying works
Air movers speed up evaporation from wet surfaces, and dehumidifiers pull that moisture out of the air so it does not re-absorb into drywall, trim and framing. Contractors often contain the wet area with plastic sheeting so equipment dries the right space efficiently.
Moisture monitoring
A contractor records moisture readings at set points, usually daily, and compares them to dry reference readings from unaffected areas of the home. Equipment is removed when readings reach the drying goal, not on a fixed calendar.
Drying inside walls and under cabinets
Water wicks up drywall and runs under cabinets and baseboards. Contractors may remove baseboards, drill small holes or use injection drying systems to move air through wall cavities and under toe kicks without tearing out more than necessary.
Cleanup and odor control
After drying, affected surfaces are cleaned, and antimicrobial products may be applied where contaminated water was involved. Lingering odors usually point to remaining moisture, which is why final readings matter.
Questions
Can I dry the house with fans from the store?
Household fans move air but do not remove moisture from the room. Commercial dehumidification and moisture readings are what confirm materials are actually dry.
Does Water Damage Restore rent equipment?
No. Water Damage Restore is a referral service and does not provide equipment or perform the work. Independent contractors bring and manage their own equipment.
