Mold Removal & Remediation

Mold needs moisture to grow, so it often follows a leak that was not fully dried. Water Damage Restore connects homeowners with independent contractors for mold removal and remediation of visible growth.

Call to be connected with an independent restoration contractor. Water Damage Restore is a referral service and does not perform the work.

Remediation versus cleaning

Remediation means removing mold growth while keeping spores from spreading to the rest of the home. Contractors set up containment, use negative air pressure with HEPA filtration, remove affected porous materials and clean hard surfaces.

Fix the moisture source

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency notes that the key to mold control is moisture control. Removing growth without fixing the leak or humidity that caused it lets mold return.

Where mold commonly appears

Behind baseboards and under sinks after slow leaks, in basements and crawl spaces, on bathroom ceilings with poor ventilation, in attics after roof leaks, and on drywall that stayed wet after a water loss.

What to avoid

Do not disturb large areas of growth yourself, and do not run the HVAC system if mold is inside ducts or the air handler. Note where you see growth and any musty odor when you call.
